Marketing 101 - BMW and Audi Billboard War

Marketing and Ad campaigns differ greatly between the US and Europe, primarily because of cultural differences in marketing as well as different laws and regulations governing respective continents. In the US it is much more common for an advertiser to explicitly mention the name of a direct competitor in its ads or commercials in an effort to downgrade the competitor, while in Europe such practices are practically unseen.

Despite these differences one should always remember the fundamentals of "Marketing 101" - to always think one step ahead. Do not start something in the heat of the moment without proper planning and analysis in regards to possible back firing or rebuttals.

What's seen in the picture below was actually witnessed by us at CrudeAgency.com in Santa Monica (Los Angeles) not too long ago, German luxury car maker Audi decided to poke at its competitor BMW without thinking ahead. The picture speaks for itself:
